Visitors to the Capitol on Derby Day morning will
be able to enjoy their breakfast on picnic tables transformed into horses for
the Governor's Derby Celebration. Each of the 50 horses will don tablecloths
fashioned as "horse blankets" painted by Kentucky school children,
demonstrating the unbridled spirit of Kentucky.
The Kentucky Arts
Council invited schools from across the Commonwealth to participate in the
Derby project on behalf of Gov. Steve Beshear and First Lady Jane Beshear.
Twenty-five schools answered the call and submitted 50 colorful
canvases.
Don't miss the opportunity to have breakfast amid the gaily
bedecked horses on the Capitol grounds Saturday, May 1, 8 a.m. until noon. The
event is free and open to the public. (There is a $1 charge for food
items.)
