Thumbpicking guitarist Alonzo Pennington will be the featured performer during the Kentucky Arts Council’s “Makings of a Master” exhibit’s stay in Beaver Dam through May 31. Pennington will perform a free concert Friday, April 29, from 7 pm. to 9 p.m. central time at theOhio County Artists Guild, 101 N. Main St. in Beaver Dam.

Diane Earle named arts council’s featured artist for May, June

Diane Earle, a Kentucky Wesleyan College music professor and artist in residence, was named the Kentucky Arts Council’s featured artist for May and June. Earle, of Owensboro, has been playing piano for more than 50 years and has made a name for herself as a performer and teacher.
Governor’s Derby Celebration will include art by Kentucky students

Students in 32 Kentucky classrooms painted blankets that will adorn picnic tables May 7 as part of the annual Governor’s Derby Celebration in downtown Frankfort.
TranspARTation Grant application deadline is May 17
Schools across Kentucky still have time to apply for a Kentucky Arts Council TranspARTation Grant. The application deadline for these grants is May 17 for field trips scheduled from July 1, 2016, to June 30, 2017.

The Kentucky Arts Council has published an online directory of summer arts camps, programs and activities for Kentucky students hosted by Kentucky Arts Partnership organizations. Programs include a variety of disciplines such as visual art, theater, music, writing, dance and more, all designed to provide Kentucky children an enriching experience in the arts.
