Ideas Gallery a Treasure Trove of Inspiration at
Kentucky Crafted: The Market

“You see the Ideas Gallery and you’re already making a mental checklist of what you need to find.” — Christy Chaney, Owensboro artist and gallery owner

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 4, 2017) — When planners for the Owensboro Convention Center wanted to beautify their facility with art, they visited the Ideas Gallery at Kentucky Crafted: The Market to find their artists.

The Ideas Gallery, on exhibit April 22-23 at the Lexington Convention Center, features work by artists in the Kentucky Arts Council’s Architectural Artists Directory, an adjudicated marketing program for Kentucky artists whose work includes architectural elements, custom-made fixtures, uniquely crafted building materials and design elements.

Christy Chaney, an Owensboro artist and co-owner of Studio Slant, along with her sister Katherine Taylor, said she and Katherine’s visit to the Ideas Gallery at The Market helped them make their recommendation of glass artist Dan Neil Barnes and two other Architectural Artists Directory members, Arturo Alonzo Sandoval and Brook Forrest White Jr., to the city of Owensboro and convention center.

“I was looking for what spoke to me the most. ‘This could really work. This has a story. This moves me,’” Chaney said.

The Ideas Gallery is ideal for homeowners, business owners, architects, interior designers or anyone interested in adding a unique architectural element to their homes or places of work. Browsing the exhibit will give guests a taste of the vision these artists can bring to any design-build project.

Having that sampling of architectural artists in one space was helpful, Chaney said.

“I really liked the area a lot. You could see what was going on, who to look at,” she said. “Seeing Dan’s piece there drove me to his booth. I would not have stopped at his booth if I hadn’t seen a sample of his work in the Ideas Gallery.”

A visit to the Ideas Gallery during The Market can create inspiration for similar projects, large and small, Chaney said.

“It gives a lot of different options in one space,” she said. “You get a broader view of what’s going on. When we go to The Market, the Ideas Gallery is the first thing we hit before we start going down the aisles in the exhibit hall. You see the Ideas Gallery and you’re already making a mental checklist of what you need to find.”

Artists participating in the Ideas Gallery are:
