Arts Council Accepting Entries for Governor’s Derby Exhibit

FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 30, 2018) — The Kentucky Arts Council is accepting artists’ submissions for the Governor’s Derby Exhibit. The application deadline is April 13.

The Governor’s Derby Exhibit, associated with the annual Governor’s Derby Celebration, is open to all Kentucky artists 18 years of age or older. This year’s exhibit theme is “Reflections of the Commonwealth.” It will be on display in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort May 1-June 4.

“The Kentucky Derby is an enduring tradition in the Commonwealth, and the Kentucky Arts Council is proud to contribute to it,” said Chris Cathers, arts council interim executive director. “This is one of a handful of exhibits the arts council sponsors that is open to all Kentucky artists, and is a good opportunity for artists to connect with the Kentucky Arts Council and to have their work viewed by visitors to the Capitol, state legislators and Capitol staff.”

All submissions must be original work by the artist, two-dimensional and ready to hang. The overall dimensions, including frame, should not exceed 36 inches in width.

The annual show is coordinated by the arts council on behalf of Gov. Matt Bevin and First Lady Glenna Bevin.

For more information or to submit work, visit the arts council’s website or contact Marvin Young, public art and design director, at or 502-892-3111.
