Arts council taking applications for Emerging Artist Award

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 31, 2020) — The Kentucky Arts Council is currently taking applications from composers and choreographers for the $1,000 Emerging Artist Award. The Emerging Artist Award is a $1,000 unrestricted award given to an early-career, professional Kentucky artist who demonstrates excellence and creativity in their work.

Emerging artists are defined as professional artists who are in the early stages, up to 10 years, of their careers. These artists possess some professional experience (exhibitions, sales, contracted/paid performances, publications/readings, etc.), but may not have established reputations as artists. Age is not a factor in determining an artist’s status as emerging. Emerging artists are responsible for creating their own work, not interpreting the work of others or creating work under the supervision of an instructor or mentor.

The Kentucky Arts Council will host two webinars Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., to answer questions from prospective applicants. The webinars are free, but registration is required.

For more information, visit the arts council website or contact Tamara Coffey at tamara.coffey@ky.gov or 502-892-3121.
