Advocate for the Arts?
You Can Do It!

The Kentucky Arts Council (KAC), in partnership with Kentuckians for the Arts (KFTA), the state’s arts advocacy organization, will host a webinar 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9, featuring a presentation and Q&A on advocating for the arts led by Lori Meadows, KFTA president and former KAC executive director.

The arts community has been, and continues to be, disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and voicing support for the arts and arts funding is more important now than ever. Individual artists, nonprofit organizations, educators and other creative workers and arts professionals can all play a role in advocating for the arts.

In this workshop, part of the arts council’s Kentucky Creative Industry Summit Series, you will learn:

  • The basics of arts advocacy and the current status of the arts sector in Kentucky.

  • The history in reduction of arts funding in the state and how it affects communities.

  • How to stay informed and become an advocacy leader for the arts where you live.

  • How to establish relationships with elected officials and educate them about the issues.

  • When and how to ask for support for the arts both where you live and across the state.

The webinar is free but does require registration. Questions can be submitted in advance during registration or by emailing emilyb.moses@ky.gov
