Email Marketing and List-Building for Creatives

Thursday, Jan. 28, 11 a.m. Eastern

The Kentucky Arts Council presents singer/songwriter/producer Carla Gover to discuss email marketing and list building for performers and other creatives. Everyone knows that social media is a necessary part of marketing themselves as artists and musicians in this day and age, but many overlook the less glamorous but essential component of surviving and thriving as an artist in any economic climate: growing and nurturing an email list.

In this workshop, participants will receive effective tips to help build a solid foundation for their business and create loyal fans who will follow the artist year after year.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Email basics 101
  • Strategies to entice subscribers
  • Automating email sequences to nurture relationships (and save your sanity)
  • Using email to drive sales of products and services
  • Email copy writing and subject line basics

Carla Gover is a self-employed songwriter, dancer, and Appalachian cultural educator who has crafted a flexible career that she loves. She has weathered economic ups and downs, and raised three children while living the life of an independent artist, in part thanks to her email list. She performs with a variety of ensembles, including the bands Zoe Speaks and CornMaiz String Band, and was selected as a Master Artist in both traditional Appalachian dancing and music by the Kentucky Arts Council. She is a teaching artist for the Kentucky Arts Council and Berea College Partners for Education. She is also the artistic director for the Cornbread & Tortillas Collective of Appalachian and Latinx artists, as well as the Cowan Creek Mountain Music School.
