Kentucky has a robust network of resources that exist solely to help small business owners thrive.
Are you an individual artist, arts business owner, or creative entrepreneur? Do you use your creative
skills to make all or part of your living through creative work? Do you need assistance with business
planning, marketing, financing, pricing, want to grow your business, or have other questions related
to running your small creative business? This event is for you!
The Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Innovation Network-Owensboro and the Kentucky Small Business
Development Center (SBDC) at Murray State University in Owensboro want to answer your business questions and help you reach your own business goals
by connecting with resources right in your own backyard!
Agenda (all times Central)
Noon – 1 p.m. – Registration
1 – 1:45 p.m. – Business Resources for the Creative Industry Panel
Hear directly from representatives of the Kentucky Small Business Development Center and the Kentucky
Innovation Network-Owensboro about how their agencies can directly assist you in setting and achieving
your small business goals. This panel will include information about the Kentucky Arts Council and a
session for you to get answers to questions about your own business.
1:50 – 2:50 p.m. – Pricing for Profit and Perceived Value Workshop
Developing appropriate pricing for creative work can be extremely difficult, as multiple factors
need to be considered. Who is your target audience, and in what specific market will you compete?
Will you sell in both the wholesale and retail markets? This workshop for artists, led by Vallorie Henderson with Louisville SBDC, will address these
factors as well as how to account for production time, promotional expenses and material costs within
your profit margin. Planning for your business’s overall success is critical, because if you don’t
treat it like a business, it will never be one.
2:50 – 3:30 p.m. – Consultation and networking
Take this time to talk one-on-one with our business resource representatives to learn more about how
you can use their services for your benefit. You can also use this time to talk with other creative
people like yourself to broaden your personal network.
