HUI CHI LEE
"I am not interested in reproducing the visible; rather, I aim to make the invisible visible. By my creative strategies, every element of a work takes on a metaphorical meaning."
Hui Chi Lee is a Taiwanese-born artist who came to the United States as an undergraduate
student to study fine art. She received her master of science from Illinois State University
and a master of fine arts from the University of Florida. She teaches at the University of
Kentucky in the college of fine art's school of art and visual studies. Her works have been
shown in a variety of exhibits and galleries, including Kaohsiung Fine Arts Museum, Taiwan;
and the Museum of Fine Arts, Florida State University, among others.
Lee's current artistic focus incorporates the human form with hair as her major subject matter. She uses graphite and mechanical pencil as her primary media due to its unique ability to capture the forms she seeks to emphasize in the subject matter.
