2016 Governor's Awards in the Arts:
Artist Award

Versailles, Ky.

Guy Gerard Kemper From a hobby he picked up in college, glass artist Guy Kemper has built an international reputation for excellence.

His installations include Chicago O’Hare, Baltimore-Washington, Orlando, and St. Pete-Clearwater airports, the University of Kentucky hospital, Mt. Baker light rail station in Seattle, and the Catholic Memorial at Ground Zero in New York City.

Kemper has been the subject of two television documentaries in the United States and one in Germany. The recipient of Interior Design magazine’s CODA international design award in 2013, he has exhibited, given seminars, and been commissioned in Asia, Europe, the U.S. and Middle East.

Although his work is international, he draws inspiration from his Kentucky home, a 95-acre farm in Woodford County near the Kentucky River.

Among Kemper’s most notable patrons is Alltech cofounder Deirdre Lyons, who said she has been following Kemper’s career for years.

“His vision is deeply rooted in his Kentucky rearing,” Lyons said, “yet his work has an appeal worldwide.”
