The arts are an integral part of Owensboro Health’s mission, within its own organization and in the community at large. The health system, which spans 14 counties in western Kentucky and southern Indiana and employs more than 4,000 people, has earned a national reputation not only for its medical service, but also for its appearance and innovation in the field of function and aesthetics. Its facilities have earned nine separate awards for architecture, design and beauty.

The presentation of works of art and performances in Owensboro Health facilities is written into company policy and is part of its corporate culture. In 2012 the health system established an Arts and Design Committee, tasked with overseeing “interior and exterior design, and the visual and performance art selection, donation and exhibition” and “determining the scope of the Arts in Healing Environment program annually.”

The health care organization recognizes art’s role in contributing to the community’s health and wellness. Owensboro Health annually provides partial funding to arts organizations in Owensboro and Daviess County. Over the last five years, Owensboro Health has invested more than $1 million in the arts regionally.

Owensboro Health has also fostered collaborative partnerships in its community. Among those is Musicians on Call, a collaboration with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra in which concert pianists within the orchestra were invited to play a piano in the lobby of Owensboro Health Regional Hospital throughout the day spanning two weeks during the 2015 holiday season.
