CKYO MusicWorks CKYO MusicWorks

Founded by the Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras in 2013, CKYO MusicWorks is an orchestral and string ensemble program fostering positive youth development by providing daily access to high-quality music education. The program operates at no cost to participants in Lexington’s historically underserved north side. CKYO MusicWorks instructors use music education as a vehicle for social change and community engagement.

MusicWorks’ primary goal is to use music education as a tool to teach positive social values and to make all children feel they are valued members of their community. The program’s focus is on those with the fewest resources and the greatest need for opportunities. By nurturing interpersonal development skills in an orchestral setting, MusicWorks seeks to inspire its students to achieve more in their personal and academic pursuits alongside their musical endeavors. Students feel invested in their community as they become a source of community pride through the program, and this instills in them the desire to give back to that community.
