Kentucky Writers' Day

Tuesday, April 26, 2022 | 10 a.m. Eastern

Kentucky State Capitol Rotunda

700 Capitol Avenue Frankfort, KY 40601

You are invited!

Celebrate Kentucky Writers' Day in Frankfort and writers from across the commonwealth. Enjoy a recitation from Poetry Out Loud State Champion Lupita Diaz and readings by past poets laureate Richard Taylor, Sena Jeter Naslund, Maureen Morehead, Frank X Walker, George Ella Lyon and Jeff Worley and current Kentucky Poet Laureate Crystal Wilkinson.

The Kentucky General Assembly established Kentucky Writers’ Day in 1990 to honor Kentucky’s strong literary tradition and to celebrate the anniversary of the birth on April 24 of Kentucky native Robert Penn Warren, the first poet laureate of the United States and winner of three Pulitzer Prizes. When April 24 falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Kentucky Arts Council moves its celebration of Kentucky Writers’ Day to a weekday to encourage the participation of all Kentuckians.
