The Kentucky Arts Council's celebration of Kentucky Writers' Day included the induction of Frank X Walker as the 2013-14 Kentucky Poet Laureate and readings by the new poet laureate and past poets Maureen Morehead, Gurney Norman, Jane Gentry Vance, Sena Jeter Naslund, Joe Survant and Richard Taylor.
Kentucky Writers’ Day celebrates the Commonwealth’s strong literary tradition and the birthday of Kentucky native Robert Penn Warren, the first poet laureate of the United States and winner of three Pulitzer Prizes.

Frank X Walker blows a kiss to the crowd after his speech received a standing ovation at the Kentucky Writers' Day ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort. Walker is Kentucky's youngest, and first African-American, poet laureate.
