Kentucky Baroque Trumpets
Kentucky Baroque Trumpets recreates the sounds and performance styles of the baroque trumpet, which include military signal calls, dance music, ensembles and solos and trumpet with voice. All of these have different demands on the players. In 2007 the ensemble won first place in the Historic Ensemble Division of the National Trumpet Competition. The ensemble performs on replicas of instruments from the baroque era, both with and without “vent holes.” Although vent-hole instruments were not employed before 1750, Kentucky Baroque Trumpets performs with these instruments to achieve the intonations that a modern audience expects of an ensemble. The more authentic instruments without holes are played by the group to demonstrate the challenges of playing them. The group also plays modern trumpets in concerts in order to demonstrate the differences in timbre between the modern and baroque trumpet.
