Kennedy Center/National Symphony Orchestra
National Trustees’ Summer Music Institute
(July 2–30, 2012)

The Kentucky Arts Council is pleased to serve as the state contact for the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Summer Music Institute. Through an initiative of the NSO National Trustees, young musicians ages 15-20 are eligible to apply for a National Trustees’ fellowship. One musician from most states will be selected to participate in the 2012 Summer Music Institute. International students may be selected as well.

The four-week summer music program is designed for serious music students. Students accepted into the program will receive full scholarships, including housing, food allowance and local transportation. (Round-trip transportation to and from Washington, D.C., is not included. Applicants may apply to the NSO for financial aid to help defray round-trip transportation costs.)

During the Summer Music Institute, students will work with NSO members during private lessons, chamber music coaching, master classes and seminars; participate in the NSO Summer Music Institute orchestra; and enjoy performance opportunities in the D.C. metropolitan area.

NEW this season: All applicants will submit their applications (including solo and excerpts recordings) online via ArtsApp through www.kennedy-center.org/smi. ArtsApp is an independent company and is not affiliated with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. There is an ArtsApp registration fee of $10 that is collected through PayPal. If you are unable to complete the online application process for any reason, contact Carole Wysocki, NSO’s director of education, at cjwysocki@kennedy-center.org for assistance.

Deadline for Application: February 20, 2012
