The Kentucky Arts Council (KAC) strongly encourages you to read and understand the KAC Values, general guidelines, Arts Education Roster guidelines and each step of the application process before accessing the application at www.culturegrants-ky.org.
The purpose of the Arts Education Roster is to promote artists that have the qualifications to conduct residencies, i.e., produce high quality artistic work, and have the skills and competencies needed to work with teachers and students in designing and implementing arts programs.
Your application will be reviewed using the following performance expectations:
1. Artistic Excellence (70%)
2. Teaching and Residency Experience (15%)
3. Sample Residency Project (15%)
The Arts Education Roster is an adjudicated directory of professional teaching artists and folklorists qualified to work in educational settings. The directory can be accessed at http://artistdirectory.ky.gov. The roster also serves as a resource for schools, museums, art centers, social service agencies, colleges, universities, hospitals, festivals, community recreational facilities and other nonprofit organizations seeking qualified arts professionals for arts and educational programming.
This online directory includes a bio, photograph, work samples and contact information about the artist as well as sample residency projects.
Artists applying for inclusion in the Arts Education Roster must provide the KAC with documentation of a current background check by the Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to being accepted. (see http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/fprequest.htm, the KAC must received this by Wednesday, May 7, 2008)
All Roster artists are provided with free professional development training to enhance their skills when working in an educational setting. This training is offered in July and November during mandatory artist retreats at the Kentucky Leadership Center near Jabez, KY and includes such topics as teacher professional development delivery, core content, adapting their programs for persons with disabilities, the Program of Studies, integration of the arts into the curriculum, etc.
New applicants must submit work samples with their application. Acceptance into the Roster is for a three-year term. Artists will be required to update their application annually throughout this term. At the end of the three-year term, artists wishing to continue in this program are required to re-jury by submitting a new application including updated work samples.
As a roster artist, you may partner with Kentucky schools interested in residencies and apply for the Teacher Initiated Program.
