ARTIST'S STATEMENTMy "heads" series probes ideas of self, identity, accident of birth, nature/nurture and chance. They all begin exactly the same (nature), as a Hydrocal casting from a mold of my own head. They are then altered, using additive as well as subtractive techniques, to become other characters, personalities or types (nurture). Though they are not self-portraits in the strictest definition of the term, they depict alter egos, represent people I might have become or personalities I wanted at one time to be. They begin to hint at the infinite possibilities of how "self" is defined, what a person is or can be, and how identities are established and reinforced. |
