ARTIST'S STATEMENTMy intrigue of yards is in their flexibility between being a sanctuary of constructed, well-defined plots of land that give boundaries by contrast, to the frontiers of nature and human nature dramatized through the interactive architecture of people and nature. I set out to find some redeeming value in the mundane of American domestic culture and to include in my photographs its symbols and iconography. In the intimate space of yards, I can measure the completeness of a world through metaphor, memorializing objects and activities that create and construct a place in the landscape that transcends the everyday. |
