The Kentucky Arts Council announces the return of the Governor’s Derby Exhibit this May and is pleased to reveal this year’s theme in advance of the official call to artists.
Inspired by the spirit of the Kentucky Derby, the 2026 exhibit invites artists to explore the idea of the “Long Shot.” Artworks should explore the ideas of risk, resilience, and the dreamers who remind us that anything can happen between the gate and the finish line.
Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly, considering moments of courage, unexpected triumph, perseverance against the odds, and the bold act of believing in possibility.
Eligibility
- Any Kentucky visual artist age 18 or older may submit up to two original entries for consideration.
- Work must be original and two-dimensional.
- Include hanging wire or hardware.
- Maximum depth: 6 inches
- Maximum size (including frame): 36 inches in height or width
- Maximum weight: 25 pounds
The official call to artists and application will be released in March. Artists are encouraged to stay tuned for additional details.
