Creating a Marketing Plan for Your Art Business

The Kentucky Arts Council will host a free webinar with Dr. Rachel Shane on May 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., focusing on marketing essentials for artists who want to sell their work, build their reputation, and connect with the right audience.
This workshop offers a step-by-step framework for creating a personalized marketing plan tailored to various arts businesses, including visual and craft arts, performance, literary, and more. Participants will learn how to define their target market, choose effective promotional strategies, and develop a structured plan to grow their audience and sales.
Dr. Rachel Shane is the department chair and a professor of Arts Administration at the University of Kentucky. She oversees three of the department’s degree programs as well as the graduate certificate in fundraising and development and professional development offerings. Prior to joining the UK faculty, Dr. Shane served as department head and professor of arts administration at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she established the arts administration department and grew it to the fourth-largest graduate program at the college. She was also the managing director of the Elm Shakespeare Company in New Haven, Conn., served as the associate director of education at the Delaware Theatre Company, and served as the Theatre for Young Audiences tour director and theatre summer camp director for the Hippodrome State Theatre in Gainesville, Fla.
