Continent to Commonwealth: Asian/Asian American Kentucky Art

May 19, 2023 – Jul 22, 2024

Kentucky Arts Council, Asia Institute-Crane House, and the Kentucky Chinese American Association are partnering to present a touring exhibit that focuses on the experiences of Asian American and Pacific Islander (APP) Kentuckians in the commonwealth today and how Asian individuals, families and communities contribute to Kentucky’s cultural landscape.

Our Kentucky Home: Hispanic / Latin American Visual Art in the Commonwealth

Nov 2021 – Oct 2022

Kentucky Arts Council, Al Dia en America, and Casa de la Cultura Kentucky partnered to present a touring exhibit of creative works by Hispanic, Latinx and Latin American Kentuckians. A panel of Hispanic/Latinx Kentuckians and other cultural specialists selected works to include in this exhibit, which they named Nuestro Hogar Kentucky, Our Kentucky Home.

Native Reflections: Visual Art by American Indians of Kentucky

Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission and the Kentucky Heritage Council partnered together to invite Native Americans living in Kentucky to share their art selected by a panel of Native Americans and experts on Native American Heritage.

Kentucky Veteran’s Project

Kentucky Veteran’s Project Exhibit featured 44 curated pieces of art by military veterans and family members of veterans from 23 Kentucky counties. The exhibit allowed artists creative freedom to display work that was reflective of their own experiences, personal inspirations, and interest.

The Makings of a Master: Kentucky Folk Art

Explore the relationships between master folk artists and their apprentices in the Makings of a Master: Kentucky Folk Art Exhibit. Whether they are musicians, dancers, storytellers or craft artists, all communities have their masters — those who are considered the most excellent representatives of their folk art.

The Kentucky Arts Council (KAC), in partnership with Asia Institute-Crane House and the Kentucky Chinese American Association, announces a call to Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) artists in Kentucky to submit visual art for consideration in a new traveling exhibit. Goals of this exhibit are to share AAPI experiences in the commonwealth today, and recognize the artistic expressions these individuals, families and communities contribute to Kentucky’s cultural landscape.

2023 Governor’s Derby Exhibit

Oral history has been an essential part of the lives of Kentuckians, including natives and generations of immigrant populations. Individuals, families and communities throughout the state trace their history through family lineage and migration stories, as well as through folklore and legend. Pieces featured in “Tell Us a Story” reflect stories, memories, experiences, people and places that carry on the rich tradition of Kentucky’s oral history.

Native Reflections: Visual Art by American Indians of Kentucky

The Kentucky Arts Council, the Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission and the Kentucky Heritage Council worked together to invite American Indians living in Kentucky to share their visual art. A panel of American Indians and experts on Native American heritage selected works to include and the result is this amazing collection.

Derby Celebration 2019

The Governor’s Derby Exhibit was on display in the Kentucky State Capitol Rotunda. It features the work of 43 artists from across the Commonwealth with their interpretation of the theme “We Are Kentucky.

The Kentucky Veterans Project | Exhibit

The Kentucky Veteran Project exhibit features 44 pieces of art by military veterans and family members of veterans from 23 Kentucky counties. This exhibit was intentionally curated without a theme, allowing artists the creative freedom to display work that is reflective of their own experiences, personal inspirations and interests.

The Makings of a Master: Kentucky Folk Art Videos

Kentucky is filled with folk traditions, old and new, from basket makers and banjo players to dancers and drummers. Explore the relationships between master folk artists and their apprentices and the culture they share through art, video interviews, live concerts and demonstrations. This exhibit celebrates over 20 years of apprenticeships funded and documented by the Kentucky Arts Council.

Ways of Seeing | Exhibit

Artists have long explored the depths of their imagination in their artwork, presenting a fantastical version of the world we know. The artists in Ways of Seeing imagine an alternate reality by exploring the unknown or by re-envisioning the known world. Join us as this group of 19 Kentucky artists, participants in the Kentucky Crafted program and the Al Smith Individual Artists Fellowship recipients, shows us a different way of seeing.
